Recommended Metro PCS Phone (as of 11/25/2013)

Holiday seasons start and Metro PCS is putting nice discount on its phone line up.

For those who try to shop but overwhelmed by selections, I'd like to give some tips on phone selection.

Please note that this is personalized opinion.

** What's New? **

Samsung Galaxy Mega

This oversized 6.3' will make current 5' phones look like toys. Not just size, its 1.7Ghz Dual Core CPU and 1.5GB ram and 16GB internal space are more than enough for today's apps and multi user task.

Currently the phone is priced at $399 after $100 instant discount. If you are getting it with new number you get additional $50 discount.

Yes, $400 is not cheap price but this is very competitive price for pre-paid phone. If you prefer to have big screen with high end spec, consider this phone during this Holiday season.

** What's the best? **

Samsung Galsxy S4

If you want the best of the best without the price concern, look no further.

This Samsung's flagship phone is equipped with 5' Super AMOLED display, 1.9Ghz Quad Core, 2GB Ram, 16GB of internal space, 13 MP camera, you can use it as TV remote, life time S-voice support etc.. the list goes on.

The price? It's currently priced as $519 after $30 mail in rebate. Yes you have to pay half grand to own this presige phone. $30 MIR is little bit disappointing, hope we can see some better discount around Christmas.

** What's affordable? **

LG Optimus F6

If you want to catch up with today's phone but don't want to break the bank. I recommend LG F6.

Big enough for everyday's tasking 4.5' screen, 1.2 Ghz Dual Core, 1GB RAM and Jelly Bean OS, you can get all these features with affordable $199.00.

One drawback is very small internal app space (4GB total, 1.3GB usable). This will fill up quickly if you don't control apps and multimedia files. Be sure to get external SD card.

Unfortunately there's no deal on this phone as of now, but price and specwise LG Optimus F6 is still the winner.

** What's cheap? **

Alcatel ONETOUCH Evolve.

Alcatel is french based company and currently provides 3 affordable phones for Metro PCS line up.

Just for $59 you can get 4' screen (800x600), 1Ghz Single Core, 512MB ram, 5Ghz camera and Jelly Bean OS. This is enough for everyday use and moderate gaming.

Although it's advertise as 4GB of internal memory, actual usable space is close to 1.3GB. If you download many apps or store multimedia files (photo, music, movie), it will fill up quickly. External SD card is highly recommened for this phone.

Still it's hard to pass all these features with $59. This is strong candidate for people who are looking for a value phone without high end features.

  1. I would like to get the Mega as a tablet with unlimited data . I have the galaxy s4 as my main phone so I would not use the Mega as a phone.

  2. Dear Jean. In that case get a cheaper tablet with wifi only option then add tether/hot spot service to your plan. (Not sure if Metro offers tether service with extra cost..) That way you save tablet cost and monthly cost.
